How having a blog can help you get a job -
How having a blog can help you get a job - I am so excited to share news from a client who just landed a great job. In and of itself, a client landing a job isnt extraordinary that is the point of hiring me to help, after all! What is special about this client is that she was in a transitional search. She was finding that there were not a lot of opportunities in her field, so she needed to make a change. She was looking for jobs doing things she had not done before. Anyone who talks to me about transitioning knows that this is a tough time to make a career change. While I would never discourage someone from trying, with the economy being what it is, employers tend to have a choice of people who have ALREADY done EXACTLY the thing the job requires. Many people are willing to take a step back for a job and are overqualified. In either case, employers have their pick of people who can just step right into the job. Taking a chance on someone who can learn isnt typical. In this case, a targeted resume is key job seekers need to make a clear case that shows their skills and accomplishments as they relate to the desired job. However, there is so much more to success than just the resume, as my client demonstrated! Previously a copy editor, she landed a job as a development coordinator, involving social media, fundraising and grant writing. None of those items were things she had been paid to do in the past. She noted, The hiring manager told me she initially wasnt going to interview anyone without grant writing experience but was so impressed with my writing skills (on my cover letter, resume and blog; dont know if she checked out my Twitter feed or LinkedIn profile) that she brought me in just to see. Turns out she liked me, her boss liked me during the second interview, and they decided to take a chance on me! Out of six candidates, I was the one chosen. So the blog definitely helped. Go tell your job seekers that. There is more to this storyStay tuned! Please share what YOU have done differently that led to success in your job search! I can help with every part of your job hunt! Bringing Back Work Ethic How To Make More Money - Work It Daily
Bringing Back Work Ethic How To Make More Money - Work It Daily One of the biggest challenges facing American prosperity is the loss of the good old-fashioned work ethic. We all want more out of life. More success, more money, more stuff. But at the same time, we also want more time off for âleisure activities.â In fact, there has been a renewed call lately for the four-day workweek, with the argument that âworking less is the key to success.â This question of whether itâs possible to work âsmarter not harderâ has sparked an array of reactions. But if you were to ask the opinion of professional athletes, pastors, corporate CEOs, former presidents, entrepreneurs, four-star generals, Academy Award-winning actors, and the countryâs most successful people, you know they would all advocate hard work and long hours. On the other side of the coin are those that suggest there are shortcuts to success. The question is, should America adopt this type of philosophy? Weâve been working less and less over the last 100 years already. According to the US Department of the Interior, in 1901, Americans worked an average of 58.5 hours a week; in 1929 that average was down to 50 hours; and in 2013 we are down to a mere 39.2 hours a week. This idea of working less, yet continuing to want more, is becoming a dangerous societal trend. No other country has close to the innovation and creativity that America has contributed to the world. Could it have something to do with the fact we have less vacation time on average than most other countries? This article from CNN.com shows that among 40 countries surveyed, only China has less vacation days (21) than the U.S. (25), with countries like Greece (37), France (40) and Brazil (41) leading the pack. Could there be a relationship between this and being an economic superpower? There are a few challenges with society today, but a big one is that people donât understand what it means to work hard, really hard, to earn success. The successful achiever has consistent work cycles where he is putting in 55-70 hour workweeks over several months before taking a break. Itâs these individuals who want to make more out of life for themselves, their families and society. Ask the entrepreneur leading his growing workforce, or the father working two jobs to send his children to college â" there is a direct connection between putting in the time and finding success. Here is the basic roadmap to bring back the American work ethic that has built our nation: If You Want More Money, Turn Off The Distractions We get so wrapped up in the dreams of the American Idol contestants or the lives of the Kardashians that we let them replace our own story and our own goals. Put down the video games, turn off the TV, stop checking Facebook, and start focusing on ways to build your dream and ultimately make more money. Make Your âLeisure Timeâ Work For You Hours spent in a year on leisure time in 1880 was 43,800 hours. In 1995 it had more than tripled to 176,000 hours and by the year 2040 it is projected to be 246,000 hours. Weâre on track to have more and more time âfor ourselvesâ â" so how are you going to spend it? Take Responsibility We hear it all the time: Itâs my job, itâs my family, itâs this or that. Are you going to keep making excuses with a âvictimhood mentalityâ or take the bull by the horns and take responsibility? Dreams without hard work are nothing more than fantasies. Be Curious About Your Potential People need to start being curious again. Curious about what we are capable of; curious enough to ask ourselves the question âwhat if?â Curiosity is what leads us to understanding our personal identity and self-image. The more we work challenge our mindsets, the closer we get to clearing up all the clutter in our minds. Photo Credit: Shutterstock Have you joined our career growth club?Join Us Today!

8 Changes You Should Never Make For A Partner (And How To Know If You Are)
8 Changes You Should Never Make For A Partner (And How To Know If You Are) Managing a relationship is tough work. Sometimes you find yourself looking in the mirror one day and youve suddenly become someone else. Someone different. Relationships change us, but they shouldnt change who you are fundementally or physically unless those are changes that you want for yourself. Here are some parts of you that you should NEVER change because of someone else, and how to tell if you already, so you can stop.1. Your style. If you find yourself standing in the dressing room, looking in the mirror and wondering if your partner will like what they see, youre doing it wrong. Unless you are out shopping for a special occasion, buy what makes you happy. While its nice to feel notlageiced, its also nice to feel like your style matches your personality.2. Your friends. When you departure cutting friends out because of your partner, its a sure-fire indicator that something isnt right here. No one that love s you would expect you to cut people that have been supportive of you out of your life. Watch out for this serious red flag.3. Your relationship with your family.Similar with friends, your family is your blood. If you are finding yourself spending less time with your family because they dont get along with your partner, or your partner doesnt like them... RUN. And find yourself someone you can enjoy withthe people you love.4. Your individuality. The early stages of a relationship can turn you into a meshed ball of love and lust where one of you ends and the other begins. You do everything together, you cant live without each other, and you certainly cant (and dont want to) be alone. But those days should fade over time as you settle into your relationship, and finding your individuality again should be top priority. You cant love someone else fully if you literally cannot be without them.5. Your religious beliefs. If you feel strongly about science, but your new beau is a devout Chris tian, there should be boundaries. There is no reason why anyone should have to change the core pieces of them to match someone else just because they are together. You can have different views and still love each other for those views, respectfully. But if you find yourself missing church every Sunday because your boyfriend doesnt appreciate your religion, you either need to have a serious convo about those boundaries, or you need to find someone with the same devotion to your church as you.6. Your body.If you are with someone who wants to change the way you look... GET OUT. Unless you are making a vow to get healthy or lose a few pounds because its something you want to do for YOU, then there is no reason why you should have to change your physical appearance to match what someone else has in mind. Its your body. You need to be comfortable in your own skin. And if you are? The people who love you should not be trying to change you.7. Your quirks.Do you have a weird pillow you sleep with at night? Do you need to check the garage door twice before you leave the house? Whatever it is, its part of YOU. It makes you more comfortable and its one of your things. If the person you are with wants you to stop doing something not because its unhealthy or dangerous but because it bothers them? Then you have some serious thinking to do. What other things will they want to see you change later?8. Your relationship expectations. If you have relationshipgoals and the person you are with fits very few of them, keep looking. Dont settle for less than what you feel you deserve, because you absolutely do deserve it all. And youre only doing yourself a disservice by sticking it out in a relationship that doesnt meet your realistic expectations of what your partner should be.Its easy to get lost in love, especially in the beginning when everything is new, fresh and exciting. But eventually you find your way back to you.And if you dont, it might be time to find yourself someone to s pend your life with that doesnt make you change who you are fundamentally. Its hard enough work trying to make a relationship work. Doing it while trying to become someone youre not is exhausting and unfair.
